Cartonera is a publishing movement that originated in Buenos Aires in 2001 and has spread across Latin America and the world.

The Cartonera Publishing Project was an AHRC funded research project that brought together social anthropology and cultural studies. Lucy Bell, Alex Flynn, and Patrick O’Hare worked with cartoneras partners in Mexico and Brazil from 2016-2019 and the project has resulted in numerous publications, films, events, and collaborations.
